This Privacy Policy explains how Zantific Pte. Ltd. ("Zantific", "Markdific", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal data when you visit our website at markdific.com or use Markdific.
We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA") of Singapore. If you are located in the European Economic Area ("EEA") or the United Kingdom, we also take steps to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") where applicable.
Your files stay on your device
Markdific is a desktop app that works with files stored on your own computer. We do not upload, read, store, or transmit the contents of the markdown files you open or edit. Your documents never leave your device through Markdific.
1. What personal data we collect
We may collect the following types of personal data depending on how you interact with us:
- When you visit our website: your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring website.
- When you contact us by email or form: your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
- When you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address, the page and site language you signed up from, and your country (see "Newsletter" below).
- When you purchase a Markdific licence: your email address and country, which you provide at checkout. Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, who acts as the merchant of record. We do not see or store your full credit or debit card details.
2. How and why we use your personal data
We use your personal data for the following purposes:
- To respond to your enquiries and provide customer support. Legal basis: legitimate interest in responding to communications directed to us.
- To process licence purchases and deliver your receipt and licence. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To send you product updates and marketing communications. We only send marketing communications with your explicit consent, and you may unsubscribe at any time. Legal basis: consent.
- To improve our website, content, and product. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used.
- To comply with legal obligations and protect our legitimate interests.
- To detect and prevent fraud or security incidents.
Newsletter: if you sign up for Markdown tips and Markdific updates, we store your email address, the page and site language you signed up from, your country (derived from your connection by our hosting provider, Cloudflare; we do not store your IP address), the dates you signed up or unsubscribed, and a random code used for the unsubscribe link. We use this only to send you the newsletter. Every newsletter email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by writing to hi@markdific.com. Emails are sent through our email provider, Maileroo. If you unsubscribe, we delete your address within 30 days. Legal basis: consent.
3. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Essential cookies are active by default. Non-essential (analytics and advertising) cookies are only activated with your consent, which you can give or withdraw at any time using the cookie banner or the "Cookie settings" link in our footer.
Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, with Google Consent Mode to collect aggregated, privacy-respecting data about website traffic. Analytics cookies are only set after you accept, and your IP address is anonymised. You can read about how Google uses information from sites that use its services, and you can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Microsoft Advertising: we use the Microsoft Advertising UET tag, provided by Microsoft Corporation, with Microsoft Consent Mode to measure the performance of our advertising and to build remarketing audiences. Advertising cookies are only set after you accept. You can read Microsoft's privacy statement and manage your advertising preferences. You can withdraw consent at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in our footer.
Google Ads: we use Google Ads conversion tracking and remarketing, provided by Google LLC, with Google Consent Mode. Advertising cookies are only set after you accept. You can manage your Google ad settings and read Google's advertising policies.
Hashed user-provided data: if you choose to share personal data with us through this website — for example, an email address — Google's tag may transmit it to Google Analytics in hashed (pseudonymised) form to help us measure conversions and improve our marketing. Google receives this data only in irreversible hashed form, never as plain text, and only after you have accepted cookies. We do not use it to identify you individually, and you can withdraw consent at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in our footer.
4. Disclosure of personal data
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We may share it with service providers, government authorities, and professional advisors only as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.
5. Use of third-party services
Our website and checkout rely on third-party platforms (such as our analytics, hosting, and payment providers) that may process your data outside of Singapore. We select providers with appropriate data protection standards.
6. Data retention
We retain personal data only as long as necessary: contact submissions for up to 24 months; purchase and transaction records for up to 7 years (to meet tax and accounting obligations); and subscription data is deleted within 30 days after you unsubscribe.
7. Your rights
Under Singapore's PDPA: you may request access to, or correction of, your personal data, or withdraw consent, by contacting us at hi@markdific.com.
Under the GDPR (EEA/UK): you may additionally request erasure, restriction, object to processing, request portability, or lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
8. Data breach notification
In the event of a notifiable data breach, we will notify the PDPC within 3 calendar days and affected individuals as soon as practicable. For EEA/UK users, we will notify the relevant authority within 72 hours where required.
9. Security
We use SSL/TLS encryption, access controls, and secure storage to protect your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Do Not Call registry
We comply with Singapore's Do Not Call (DNC) provisions and will not send you telemarketing messages without clear and unambiguous consent.
11. Children's data
Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
12. Third-party links
Our website may link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their policies.
13. Governing law
This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Singapore.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
